260 [PGBSC Blog] top 50

Hi everyone.

On the website under the Awards and Records tab, you will find a list of our swimmers who have acheived a top 50 swim in Canada so far in this young long course season.  The club has had a couple of meets so far, Olympic Trials and our invitational, and we are certainly happy with their performances.

Congrats on those swimmers.

258 [PGBSC Blog] SWIM-A-THON INFO

SWIM-A-THON envelopes were handed out in March.  The envelope contains Pledge Forms, Tax Receipt Affidavit, and a Remittance Envelope.

Pledge Form - Pledges can be per length (up to 200 lengths) or a "flat rate" for completing the event. Please print all of your sponsor's information.  Swim BC will not accept any illegible or incomplete forms. Pledges must include the sponsor's relationship to swimmer i.e. parent, family, or friend.  Sponsor's mailing address will be considered incomplete without a postal code.

Tax Receipt Affidavit - The Tax Receipt Affidavit must be completed by the swimmer's parent(s).  Tax receipts will not be issued without an Affidavit.

Remittance Envelope – Fill out the swimmers information on the envelope and keep all your pledge money together in the envelope.

**VERY IMPORTANT** Do not submit your completed SWIM-A-THON forms until all your pledges have been collected.  Everything needs to be submitted together, in the white SWIM-A-THON envelope, with the swimmers or family name clearly printed on the envelope.

Additional SWIM-A-THON envelopes are available at the coaches table.

I will be set-up at a table to collect completed SWIM-A-THON envelopes prior to the event.  For those collecting pledges afterwards, the deadline to submit is May 5th.  Incomplete forms/envelopes will be returned to the parents to complete.

If you have any questions, please contact me at cathie.fundraising@pgbsc.org.

243 [PGBSC Blog] FW: Blog entry - Prince George Sports Hall of Fame Awards Night

Last Saturday night I had the honor to attend the biannual Awards night of the Prince George  Sports Hall of fame. I was there to receive a Sports Excellence Award for 2010/2011 on Danica's behalf as she was in Montreal at the Olympic Trials.

The awards were an eye opener for me in that the level of sporting excellence celebrated was amazing as was the spread and variety of different sports and sports persons achieving provincial and national sporting recognition.

Danica has followed some very illustrious Barracuda company in receiving this excellence award. Most recently, in  2008/2009 Andrew Cherbot and Katie Mann were recipients and in 2006/2007 Kyle McMahon was also awarded.

This obviously speaks volumes about these swimmers themselves, but also is a tribute to the Barracudas Swimming Club in general. Without the club, its two coaches, Jerzy and Jason, and all the volunteers that make up the club in general none of these results could have happened.

I was obviously an extremely proud Dad on the night to accept the award for Danica. But I was also made mindful of where the PGBSC sits in the larger context of sports in Prince George and what it has to offer our children.

Thankyou

Jim Ludlow

241 [PGBSC Blog] Dental Moose Meet

Hi Everyone

The Dental Moose Meet is coming up quickly and I have posted a volunteer sign up sheet on the Barracuda bulletin board. This is a long course meet requiring 58 volunteers for each day. This means that as a parent of a participating swimmer you are required to volunteer at least 2 out of the 3 days. Unfortunately, if you can not make this commitment your swimmer will not be able to swim. I am aware that this can be difficult for some families but we need parent volunteers in order for this meet to run.

Swim meets can be a learning and social experience for your swimmer, as well as for yourself.
I will try to make you experience enjoyable and ensure that you have the best seat in the house to watch your swimmer swim.

See you at the meet.....

You will be working in a team of 6 people and need to be available about 1 hour before the meet and during the meet.
