618 [PGBSC] Pool Disruption

Hi everyone,

With the city potentially going on strike as early as Friday afternoon, the club has been told the pool will be open Thursday and Friday.

Therefore, practices for Masters Thursday am and Swim School, D3 and D2C groups on Friday are still a go.

As for Saturday, there is the potential that the pool will be closed, which would affect the Masters practice.

As for next week and beyond, it's a wait and see what happens, situation.

601 [PGBSC] Changes to Junior Senior Development program

Hi everyone,

Currently, the club has a program called the Junior/Senior Development group.  This program is designed for older kids who are new to the sport of swimming, as well as, for the swimmer who wishes to continue in the sport of swimming, but at a reduced schedule.  The Executive has decided to give the group a new name and description to better reflect the purpose of the program.  Below are the new names and descriptions of the group.  If you have any questions, please email Mike Moran at president@pgbsc.org

Fitness Program

The Fitness Program is centred on the goal of having an active lifestyle through the sport of swimming.  The goals of this program are continued stroke improvement, fitness, health, all for personal satisfaction.

This program is geared towards swimmers who were previously trained in the D1, Elite or Y/N programs.  Movement into this group is recommended by the coaching team following discussion with the swimmer and his/her parents.  The decision to guide swimmers towards this group, may be based on one or more factors, which may include the child’s ability to perform the required tasks, the time commitment that is feasible, and/or the child’s interest in training at a lower intensity so that participating in other sports or extracurricular activities is possible.

Individuals in this group, may compete provided meet entry standards are met.

Development Program

The Development Program is centred on the goal of having an active lifestyle through the sport of swimming.  The goals of this program are acquisition and development of proper stroke fundamentals, fitness and health, all for personal satisfaction.

This program is geared towards swimmers who are new to the sport of swimming or coming from the D2C or D2AB programs.

Individuals in this group, may compete provided meet entry standards are met.

598 [PGBSC] Thank you

To all the seasoned veteran parents and the first time volunteer parents, I commend you all on a job well done this week-end.  Your participation made our Northern Medical Sprint Meet a huge success.  An extra big THANK YOU to all the parents who volunteered and took on extra volunteer days, you went above and beyond and it was greatly appreciated. My apology to all the parents that may have been placed at the opposite side of the pool from where your child was swimming and I was not able to accommodate.  This was not intentional; the meet had changed from boys and 10 and under girls at one end and 11 and older girls at the other, to just boys and girls at opposite ends.  I will try to ensure you are at the right end to watch your child swim at the April meet.  Enjoy the snow and the rest of your week-end.
