471 [PGBSC Blog]

We are looking for a person that is interested in learning about the technical side of the swim club.  This can include maintenance of the website and helping out with the electronics at swim meets.  Now you don’t need to have a technical background or know programing language.  Just a willingness to learn.  If you can use a mouse and have some experience with a word processor like MS word, you can work the software we use for the website or swim meets.

So I would love to talk to you about what is involved in helping with the technical side of the club.  Give me a shout or see me at the swim meet this weekend.

468 [PGBSC Blog] Moose Swim Meet

The Volunteer sign-up sheet  for the Moose Meet is now posted on the Barracuda's bulletin board . As you are aware, in order for your swimmer to participate in this swim meet we need the commitment of a parent to volunteer for a minimum of 2 sessions. There is a cut-off date of April 10th to sign up, after this date the swimmer will be scratched from the meet.

The meet is as much fun for the parent, as it is for their swimmer.  As a volunteer, you  have the best seat in the house ,you are well fed and make new friendships and acquaintances.

If you have any questions please e –mail me at officials@pgbsc.org

 See you at the pool.

Subject: Please post to blog Info Pages Announcement

Spring is in the air and it's time to start the sign up for our last big fundraising opportunity of the season, Info Pages.

This is a great fundraiser for those who enjoy lots of walking and an excellent opportunity for your swimmer(s) to work with you for the family FRL.

Starting on May 17th, you will earn .24/book by delivering Info Pages phone books in Prince George.

Maps are available for the various delivery areas. These areas will include anywhere from 750 - 1500 books that must be delivered, door to door, within a 2-3 week period.

This fundraiser works best in teams of 3 people or more. Depending on the number of people interested, more than one area may be available per family.

Please email me at cathie.fundraising@pgbsc.org if you want to participate or have any questions.

465 [PGBSC Blog] PLEASE READ - Medical Northern Sprint Meet - Nov 16-18, 2012

Hello,

As many of you are aware our Moose Meet is fast approaching!  The dates of the Meet are April, 12-14th.  In order for this meet to be successful we require many volunteers.  It takes about 75 people each day of the meet.  We need people in the following areas:

1.     Timers – this is where we need the most people and if you have never done this before you will be matched up with someone who is experienced in timing.  You will be shown how to run the plunger which is the backup time for the electronic pads that are at the end of each lane.- 40+ timers needed

2.     Referees, Starters, Stroke and Turn Judges, Chief Timer,– training is required for these positions – if you are trained for these positions please indicate this when you sign up. – 16-20 people needed

3.     Electronics – You spend your time up in the electronics room or on the scaffolding in the shallow end.  The times from the electronic pads are transferred into a computer and you make sure the times come in correctly - 6 people needed

4.     Meet Manager Program –  once the times from the electronics are verified it is then transferred to the meet manager program.  From here the times are confirmed and eventually sent out to where it can be viewed online.  - 2 people needed and is covered.

5.     Food:  every volunteer is supplied with food during the meet.  We need about 6 people per day to help out with this.  We need 2-3  more people to help out with this.

If you have not been able to write your name on the volunteer list posted on the Barracuda's bulletin board at the pool; there is still time!  When you do sign up please mark beside your name what you would like to do.  For example, if you would like to learn the electronics please write "electronics" somewhere beside your name.

I understand that we all have busy lives and may not be able to volunteer during that weekend.  If this is the case, please contact Georgie Gerula (officials@pgbsc.org ) and Jason (jason@pgbsc.org ) or Jerzy (jerzy@pgbsc.org ).  THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!   If this is not communicated properly your child(ren) may be pulled from the meet.  We have 108 families in the club this year so we should easily be able to fill the spots needed in order to run the meet.  Every year it is hard to get volunteers for our meets or even time trials, so a few years ago it was made a requirement to volunteer; otherwise your child would be removed from the meet or time trial.   We don't want this to happen so please make sure Georgie, Jason or Jerzy are made aware if you are unable to volunteer.  You can also have someone come in your place if that is an option.

Thank you for your time,

 Georgie Gerula

Director of Officials
